There are a lot of baby boomers on business payrolls.  The state of Minnesota, for example, counts 46 percent of its 33,500-person executive-branch work force over the age of 50, with 3,200 already past the average retirement age of 61. These numbers raise a number of performance concerns, including maintaining and sharing institutional knowledge and training the next generation of managers.
To develop the skills of managers many organizations have, or are turning to, online training companies like Skillsoft and Lynda.com.  However, smaller companies find their services cost prohibitive and higher education and government have discovered that online this training doesn’t always meet their unique needs.  By learning how to use content curations tools such as Diigo and Scoop.it, you can create your own training content quickly and for free or at a very low cost.

The Performance Excellence Network is pleased to welcome Corey Bonnema, Founder and President of Manager Builders, to the February 4th Performance Improvement Breakfast discussion:  “Using Content Curation Tools to Train and Develop New Managers.”

Corey will lead a session, which provides an overview of what content curation is and illustrate how Diigo and Scoop.it work. At the end of this session you will be able to:

  • Describe how content curation can help organizations manage information and deal with “content overload”
  • Recognize the benefits of using Scoop.it as a training tool
  • Understand the power of Diigo as a way for new managers to share information with each other

The discussion is February 4th at Minneapolis Community and Technical College, downtown Minneapolis, in room L3000 (details provided after registration).  Continental breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8:00 with the presentation from 8:00 to 9:00 am. To register, contact Brian Lassiter at [email protected].

Livestreaming and video-on-demand are now also available ($20 member, $40 non-member; free for Premium/Sponsoring Members).  Please contact [email protected] for more information and for the link to register.
