There is no Minneapolis PEN breakfast in May — attend PENworks 2018 Conference instead!!

When it comes to working across differences effectively, does your brain work for you or against you?  Neuroscience is providing tremendous new information on how the brain can trip us up, despite our good intentions to be inclusive.  We can now better understand and override these base instincts and strengthen the brain’s capacity to engage care, compassion, and kindness across differences, even with differences that are not familiar or make us uncomfortable.

The Performance Excellence Network is pleased to welcome Shannon Murphy Robinson Principal & Co-Founder of BrainSkills@Work LLC, to our May 9 St. Paul PEN breakfast discussion: “The Neuroscience of Inclusion: Overriding the Brain’s Base Instincts.”  Shannon is also author of the new book “Neuroscience of Inclusion: New Skills for New Times.”

Come join us in this interactive session and learn how recent neuroscience research can help us learn how to work with the brain to override the mechanisms that feed into exclusion and the polarization of differences, and see differences through the lens of appreciation.  You will be introduced to a new brain-based framework for developing inclusion skills more effectively, including understanding how brain states impact communication, self-awareness and the ability to notice and manage unconscious bias.  You will also learn the importance of strengthening the positive brain and appreciation, which is not the brain’s natural inclination, making it easier to stay in curiosity and learn about differences.  Learning to engage the positive brain is critical in building trusting, collaborative relationships and in communicating effectively across differences — and it is good for business too, as creating appreciation-based work environments boosts performance and innovation.

The discussion is at Metro State University in the Student Center (details provided at registration). Continental breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8:00 with the presentation from 8:00 to 9:30 am. No cost for members; $30 for non-members.

Livestreaming (free) and video-on-demand ($20 for members) are now also available (discounted annual subscriptions are available and Premium/Sponsoring Members are free).
