The way organizations approach strategic challenges greatly determines their level of success or failure. Senior leaders are looking for the right results. Process owners and project leaders are challenged to initiate and prioritize new projects on a daily basis.  What is needed is organizational alignment around the vital few projects that will actually solve strategic challenges at both the enterprise and problem level.
The Performance Excellence Network is pleased to announce a special one-day workshop “The Metric of Urgency: Using Key Metrics to Link Strategy to Operational Excellence” on Thursday, August 11 at Southeast Service Cooperative in Rochester.  The workshop will be facilitated by Edwin Boon of the Rendement Group and will feature a method called “Systematic Problem Solving.”

Systematic Problem Solving (based on the principles of Lean Six Sigma and consistent with Strategy Mapping in the Balanced Scorecard) moves organizations from the widely accepted, but ad hoc, practice of executing too many projects and achieving low impact into a systematic process of executing on the vital few projects that will deliver breakthrough change expressed in terms of process performance and financial results that clearly help the organization overcome any strategic challenge.

How does SPS do it?  It builds an organization’s confidence in its performance improvement effort through the use of a systematic process.  The key process component is to identify a leading process indicator called the Metric of Urgency to create alignment between strategic challenges and the vital few projects that matter.

Edwin will share how to select the key metrics that deliver change that matters.  Explore problem statements, leading and lagging metrics and how your organization can create Meaningful Impact by staying focused on the vital few projects.

Edwin developed his problem solving skills at world-class companies including Dun & Bradstreet, Hertz, GE and more recently Sleep Number.   He has global experience as a CFO and CIO, with a broad background in Finance, Operations, Lean Six Sigma and IT and he is a certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt by GE.

This workshop will use simulation and facilitated exercises to allow participants to apply the tools taught as part of the day.
