Let’s face it: times have changed. We live in a VUCA world: volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity all co-exist simultaneously. Which means it’s easy to get consumed by short-term, in-the-moment challenges posed by executives, team members, business partners, and other stakeholders and only be tactical in our responses.
However, to determine the best way to respond for the long haul, we must learn how to think strategically. We need to know when to stop analyzing and breaking apart data and learn to synthesize the thousands of pieces of information we have into breakthroughs that have the ability to catapult our work forward. We need to figure out how to create useful meaning from all the uncertainties, trends, and conjectures that seem far out there, but in reality have already begun to impact us.
The Performance Excellence Network (PEN) is pleased to announce a special 1-day workshop Proven Ways to Enhance Strategic Thinking in Yourself and Others. The session will be held Tuesday, June 14 at Normandale Community College in Bloomington, and will be facilitated by Lori Silverman of Partners for Progress.
Today, you need to be able to anticipate issues, solve problems, and make decisions based on new and emerging information that’s often complex and ambiguous, in alignment with the long-term vision for a program or project, and the enterprise. From this hands-on workshop, you’ll walk away with a variety of practical strategic thinking tools and techniques that you can immediately apply in your work.
Objectives: After this workshop, you will be able to:
- Synthesize a variety of data and information so that it can become more useful in decision-making.
- Explain how to turn a vision into a vision story so commitment and alignment to the end goal are more easily obtained.
- Bring a variety of tools to the front end of programs, project, and initiatives that will increase sustainability long-term, identify interdependencies with other initiatives, and pinpoint changing cultural assumptions that could cause conflicts.
- Craft constructive scenario questions that will aid in identifying risks and opportunities.
- Listen for critical thinking issues in conversations and intervene to get more information.
