What does it mean to be a leader at work and in the community? How do I drive performance excellence within my organization? How do I provide top notch customer service? How do I make an impact within my community? Do you ever find yourself asking these questions? Please join us Tuesday, December 9th and hear from Gene Dankbar, Senior Principal Healthcare Systems Engineering Analyst at Mayo Clinic; Dawn Beck, Associate Director at Olmsted County Public Health; Michael Garner, Director of Operations at Cardinal of Minnesota; and Anantha (Andy) Kollengode, Operations Manager at Mayo Clinic. Gene, Dawn, Michael and Andy will share how they drive performance excellence in their organization; promoting leadership, customer focus, and community involvement.

All four of these presenters have been recipients of the Karl Shurson Quality Award. Karl Shurson was a long-time executive at IBM Rochester and was an integral part of the team that won the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for IBM Rochester in 1990. With Karl’s leadership, the Rochester Area Quality Council was formed shortly afterwards to leverage the strength and experience from IBM’s Baldrige work. Following a successful 32 year career at IBM, Karl was one of the founders and senior leaders for Pemstar, an electronics contract manufacturer. Karl’s passion for quality and improvement was evident in all his conversations and work with employees, community members and with nearly everyone he interacted with. Karl emphasized the need for continual learning for employees and saw the benefits of engaging all employees in personal and organizational improvement. Karl passed away in September 2002. We honor Karl’s contribution to quality and ongoing education with this annual award.

Please join us as we hear from four outstanding community leaders, and present this year’s Karl Shurson Quality award.
