Topic Overview
Many organizations are trying to achieve innovation as key part of their business strategy. However, the term “innovation” can be defined in many different ways, which sometimes causes confusion in how to approach the concept of innovation. Is it really just brainstorming improvement opportunities? Or is it systematically causing meaningful change to an organization’s processes, products/services, and perhaps even business models?
Jim will explore the concept of innovation in the context of the Baldrige framework, and will share how some of the country’s highest performing organizations are systematically making meaningful change to improve an organization’s products, services, programs, processes, operations, and business model, creating new value for the organization’s stakeholders. Jim will illustrate how successful organizational innovation is usually a multistep process that involves development and knowledge sharing, a decision to implement, implementation, evaluation, and learning. Jim also will share that, although innovation is often associated with technological innovation, it can be applicable to all key organizational processes that would benefit from change.
