In our “do more with less” world, managers and technical experts are relied on more and more to train colleagues, external stakeholders, and customers.  But many of these “non-trainers” don’t have the themselves (or the time) to design effective training!
The Performance Excellence Network is pleased to welcome Becky Lyons, a learning and development consultant at Frederickson Learning, to our December 1 PEN breakfast discussion: “Effective Training for Non-Trainers.”

This will be a crash course in training design and reinforcement for occasional trainers — people who get asked to train others because they are a manager, subject matter expert, and/or they are available.  Often they have little time to organize their content and even less to prepare training materials.  This will be an interactive, practical discussion designed to share tools and techniques that actually work in the real world.
Key takeaways from this session include:

  • Basic understanding of Adult Education and training design principles
  • Tool for matching training content to training approach
  • Procedure for developing training in a hurry
  • Techniques for reinforcing training back on the job

Becky wants to live in a world where employees are engaged, bosses encourage learning, and co-workers laugh together regularly.  Drawing on more than 15 years training, development, human resources, and management experience, her current work focuses on strategically integrating talent management with organizational strategy and culture.  When Becky not training, coaching, or designing new approaches for development, you’ll find her working on my dissertation: she is a doctoral candidate in the North Dakota State University Institutional Analysis program, studying the relationship between strategic human resource development and organizational performance.

The discussion is Dec 1 Minneapolis Community and Technical College, downtown Minneapolis, in room L3000 (details provided after registration). Continental breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8:00 with the presentation from 8:00 to 9:00 am. To register, contact Brian Lassiter at [email protected].

Livestreaming and video-on-demand are now also available ($20 member, $40 non-member; free for Premium/Sponsoring Members). Please contact [email protected] for more information and for the link to register for livestream or on demand.
