In today’s increasingly polarized political environment, leaders are discovering that tension is growing within their organizations. As we move into fall and the home stretch before a contentious national election, the role leaders play in maintaining an environment within their organization that is inclusive, productive, and civil becomes even more important.
The Performance Excellence Network — in partnership with the Wisconsin Center for Performance Excellence and the Iowa Quality Center and in cooperation with the Greater Rochester NY Quality Council — is pleased to host an online webinar discussion on Thursday, Sept 19: “Braver Angels: Bridging the Partisan Divide in our Nation & in our Organizations.” The discussion will be facilitated by Jeff Thiemann, Executive Director of Church Alliance and of Church Benefits Association (and former CEO of PEN member Portico Benefit Services).
Founded in 2016, the mission of Braver Angels is to reduce political polarization in America. In this non-partisan discussion, Jeff will explore the current state of polarization in the U.S., backed by recent statistics and studies. He will identify different types of polarization to understand why our current toxic polarization affects our society, daily interactions, and overall discourse, including the impact of polarization on business, government, and civic organizations. A divided workforce can lead to decreased productivity and increased conflict.
Jeff will also introduce Braver Angels’ unique approach to reducing polarization through workshops, debates, and alliances, and he will share success stories from their key programs like “Reduce the Rancor. Minnesota,” a statewide campaign in this election year, co-sponsored by the state chairs of the DFL and GOP parties. Finally, we will provide tools and resources and outline specific steps individuals and businesses can take to engage with Braver Angels. The webinar will conclude with a Q&A session and closing remarks, offering an opportunity for further discussion and involvement. We look forward to your participation and to working together towards a more united community.
This session is Thursday, September 19 from 8:00-9:00 CT (optional speed networking and mingling 7:45-8:00), using Zoom MEETING. Grab your coffee and breakfast, and join us for a rich discussion. Free for PEN/WCPE/IQC members; $20 for non-members.
